Cinema Paradiso

Sunday, 13 December

After our lovely afternoon at Rippon Winery, we decided to dine in our room, having purchased smoked salmon and salad greens earlier.

Susan and Bob Ayer had told us about Cinema Paradiso in Wanaka, that it was a must see. We typically don't go to the movies whilst on vacation (Ned hardly goes to movies ever!), however, this is a unique and not-to-be-missed Wanaka Wonder. http://www.paradiso.net.nz/

Yes, that's Wallace and Gromit's Austin coming out of the building

There are two theaters, both furnished with comfy lounge chairs and sofas. In the lobby is a café, serving beer and wine in addition to popcorn that you can take into the theater to enjoy during whatever film you are watching.

However, best of all are the cookies! Whilst watching the first half of the film, the proprietors are busy baking from-scratch cookies for intermission. The smell of freshly baked cookies wafts through the theater... This is so very civilized!

P.S. We saw the new Ron Howard film In the Heart of the Sea. It is, in a word, intense - not a vacay movie!
