After Milford Sound, we headed back toward Te Anau. As we had an itinerary roll-back, we didn't have to rush. I therefore called in a marker to do the short Chasm Walk. It was still raining, but we brought good rain gear and besides, it is a rainforest!
Fiordland National Park is a major part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. Established in 1952, it comprises 3.2 million acres, larger than Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks together!
In the town of Te Anau, there is a state-of-the-art cinema that seats a comfortable 52 patrons. While they now show feature films as well, the main draw is the film we went to see: Ata Whenua - Shadowland. Filmed by cinematographers who worked on Lord of the Rings (so we can assume they know the business) from helicopters and over the course of two years, this 30-minute cinematic experience is stunning. Click on the link below and see a teaser. Also note that the voice you hear is much like that of Dina Emerson...

P.S. Yet another movie on Ned's resume (see Cinema Paradiso post).
