Don't fold, don't iron...
Ned had some NZ notes left over from our trip in 1988, that he brought on this trip. Apparently, they no longer make or use the $1 note. Today, at the iSite (tourist information), he purchased a $10 tee shirt and pulled out an old $10 NZ note with which to pay. The young gal helping us was not even born in 1988, but loved the pictures on it. Had she $10, she would have swapped it for us. The older woman working there suggested we take it to a bank, as she had never seen this particular note before either.
Apparently, it is a limited edition that is no longer in circulation and is, according to the teller at the WestPac Bank, now worth at least $70! However, she has advised me to stick it in a book to press it b/c folds decrease the value and it cannot be ironed b/c, like most bank notes in this part of the world, is made mostly of plastic. Who knew?
Good heavens! What a great story moment. I think you need to make a Moth presentation of your NZ moments. Seriously!
